Each child in our school will be hosting a Student Led Conference in week 3 next term on
Thursday 6th August between 3.15pm -7.45pm. The conference will last for a maximum of 45 minutes and the following will happen:
There are six conferences happening in the classroom at the same time. The teacher will make contact with every family at some point during the conference. They are there to support and prompt if necessary but won’t take over from your child.
Your child will share celebrations and successes and what they might be working on in Life Long Learning and the RICH Hearts.
Students will tell you what they are learning and their next steps and show evidence of this in their books, around the room or on Hero.
A tour around the classroom which may include some interactive activities.
This year's mid-year report will be digital through our HERO portal. It will provide you with personalised information about your child’s progress and achievement in Reading, Writing and Maths. More specific details to follow at the beginning of Term 3.
This is an exciting experience for your child as the Student Led Conference is an opportunity for them to give you a real insight into what actually goes on for your child each day. If you have any questions regarding your child's progress please discuss this with the teacher when they make contact.

Now that we have settled into Level 1, it is timely to clarify where we are at with regards to parents on site. Feedback received alerted us to confusion as to whether parents are in fact allowed in the school grounds to drop off or pick up their children – short answer is yes!
Now that we are not required to facilitate contact tracing our grounds are open to our community.
On this note however, we reflected at last nights’ board meeting on the various feedback received from our parents, children and staff on the unexpected positive outcomes of our children having to self-manage their start to their day. It was hugely heartwarming to hear so many stories of children embracing their independence, being less anxious about saying goodbye to their caregivers and organizing themselves ready for their day of learning. This has been a silver lining for many of our students and their families.
We do however also acknowledge that this will not be the case for all families, and reiterate that if you feel it is necessary for your child to have a successful day, you are more than welcome to enter the school grounds with your children.
Also on this note; we would encourage you to, wherever possible, prioritize the afternoon for a time to touch base with your child’s teacher if needed. Mornings are busy with more time constraints whereas the end of the day is generally more flexible.
For the remainder of this term we will continue with the juniors finishing at 2.45pm, returning to normal school hours in Term 3. The time of 2.50pm would be a good time for parents who wish to come on site at the end of the day to do so. We ask that you are mindful of your teachers' need to make the most of every minute and the last quarter of an hour is often a crucial time for learning instruction or sometimes a necessary class activity/game or delivering key messages before home time.
Lastly, I wish to thank our parent community for your understanding and support during Levels 2 & 3 – these were unprecedented times and we had to make adjustments to our ‘school norms’ many times in order to carry out the necessary requirements specified by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health.
We are very grateful to have our full school back on site and in good health. We appreciate all you have done in your own households to support these requirements – it has been an absolute delight to see your children’s smiling faces each morning, sharing their home projects, new hair creations, meeting their family pets and generally just being able to greet them all personally. There are always unexpected bonuses through challenging times and your children have been amazing.

Week 1 in Level 2
22 May 2020
What a great week we have had - it has been so lovely welcoming everyone back to school! Our students have shown they can manage themselves well - coming into school and sorting their gear for the day. We have loved the smiles at the gate and the children have been very happy and settled in classes.
Thank you everyone for your part that you have been playing in supporting this system. We will be continuing this next week.
Looking ahead there is rain forecast next week so make sure the raincoats are ready and the umbrellas dusted off for pick up and drop offs.
Have a great weekend everyone -I think everyone is really looking forward to this one!
