OUR LOCAL AREA
Red Beach School is a school about 30 minutes north of Auckland city. It is situated on the stunning Hibiscus Coast and Whangaparaoa peninsula, which is surrounded by picturesque beaches. Our local environment offers unique lifestyle and includes a wide range of outdoor activities such as safe swimming, fishing and surfing. In close proximity is Snow Planet, Waiwera hot pools, great shopping and quick access to the motorway. Shakespear Regional Park is situated at the end of the peninsula, which has plenty of walking tracks and impressive views of the city. Gulf Harbour at the end of the peninsula offers ferry transport, not only to the city but to our famous Tiritiri Matangi, an open nature reserve in the Hauraki Gulf. It is well known for its bird life; takahē, North Island kōkako and kiwi. Many opportunities are available to access local sports and facilities such as rugby, football, netball, basketball, touch rugby and surf life clubs.
Our school caters for students from Years 1 (5 year olds) to Year 6 (11 year olds). We have a strong vision at our school as we are ‘a community empowering lifelong learners to achieve and make a difference’. Within our vision we have a RICH heart, which stands for Respect, Inclusive, Caring and Honest. These values are taught and very much alive as we expect everyone to be rich hearted.
The school opened in 1989 with a roll of 271 pupils and has grown to approximately 600. We have a range of different cultures including NZ European, Māori, Asian, Pasifika, and South African students.
Our school is divided up into communities of classes at different year levels. There are usually 3 or 4 classes in each community. Our school’s mission is to create the best possible learning environment for each individual student, so that they may achieve and reach their true potential. We are proud of our history of high levels of achievement and a strong sense of community. We encourage our parents to be part of school events and support their children with learning.
Our Discovery Hub is a flexible space designed to be used not only as a Library, but to engage our learners in all aspects of our concept curriculum; Science, Social Science, Arts and Technology, Health. Within the space is a range of digital technologies to enhance learning such as a 3-D printer and Chromebooks.
We have large, outdoor spaces that include a field, adventure playgrounds, and court areas for playing. Basketball and rugby are some of the popular games played.
To enhance and support learning in classes, we have an optional bring your own device (BYOD) from Years 3 to 6. There are also a number of ipads in our junior classes and chromebooks in the middle and senior classes.

Some well known events are beach days, school assemblies, surfing day, swimming carnival and outdoor education activities. If these fall at a time when your child is at our school then they will be included in these events. There will be additional charges for these events.
There is a strong Kapa Haka cultural group, which many children participate in. Opportunities to join in this group and the school choir are available and include a range of different performances.
