AROUND THE SCHOOL
Whānau Hui Pānui (16 May)
Our whānau hui group meets once per term alongside senior teaching staff to discuss all things Māori within school.
At our recent hui we had an interesting kōrero about how Māori students are being supported and empowered in their wider learning at Red Beach. How we identify strengths in our tauira and engage in a holistic way with tikanga in mind. If you'd like to join the conversation, nau mai haramai, come along to our next hui. (Date to be set).
Our kapa haka roopu is going strong and I'm sure we can all agree their performance at the Mother's at Heart event was fantastic - ka mau te wehi!
Some classes already have their plans underway for the Matariki Festival which will happen in early Term 3. We can't wait to share Mātauranga Māori and enjoy performances, waiata and mahi toi (artwork) from our tamariki.
Ngā mihi, Whānau Hui Roopu
Student Led Conference
What can you expect at a Student Led Conference?
Each child in our school will be hosting a Student Led Conference in week 10 on
Wednesday 28th June 3.15pm -7.45pm (Please note Room 26/27 will be doing theirs on the 21st, more information to come). The conference will last for a maximum of 45 minutes and the following will happen:
- There are six student conferences (12 in our Collaborative classes 24/25 & 26/27) happening in the classroom at the same time. The teacher will make contact with every family at some point during the conference. They are there to support and prompt if necessary but won’t take over from your child.
- Your child will share celebrations and successes and what they might be working on in Life Long Learning and the RICH Hearts.
- Students will tell you what they are learning and their next steps and show evidence of this in their books or learning journals etc.
- A tour around the classroom may include some interactive activities.
- You will also have access to more information about your child's progress through Hero that will be made available on the day.
This is an exciting experience for your child as the Student Led Conference is an opportunity for them to give you a real insight into what actually goes on for your child each day.
You will also have access to more information about your child's progress through Hero that will be made available on the day. The teacher will be available if you do have any questions about your child's progress.
