Kia ora koutou,
As this is the last formal newsletter for the school year, I want to take this opportunity to thank you one and all for your support.
It has been a good year made better, with the gradual lifting of Covid restrictions - slowly but surely we are getting back to normal!
Sadly at this time of the year there are a lot of goodbyes - but in many cases goodbyes are accompanied by messages of congratulations. Such is the case as we celebrate the retirement of Mrs Helen Williams, Mrs Camille Cornelius and Mrs Denise O’Reilly. They are most definitely part of the strong successful history of our school.
Many of you will have had your child/children or perhaps even yourself been taught by one or even maybe all three teachers!
Much has been written about what makes a successful teacher and when you really reflect on this - put simply, they have made a difference!
Such is the case for Camille, Denise and Helen.
All three have held key roles in our school and have dedicated themselves to the profession. We are so going to miss them and wish them all the very best for all that they have planned for the future.
They have worked tirelessly for our profession - now is the time for them to focus on enjoying the next chapter of life! Tomorrow at midday we will be having a special assembly to honour our retirees. All are welcome.
Also leaving us at the end of the year is:
Mrs Angela Hunt - taking up a promotion at Kingsway, Janet Lloyd on maternity leave, Chrissy Price, Adam Strickland and Tina Henry who are taking a break from fulltime teaching to pursue other interests and Emily Furr as she heads off overseas.
Thank you one all for all that you have contributed to the life of our school -we will miss you!
Joining our team in a full time capacity is:
Bianca Walker, Kirsten Thorne, Briony Hansen and Anna Hedstrom (all currently on the team here at RBS). They will be joined by Kate Winiana (from Lower Hutt) Carla Wintle (Bailey Road School) and Chelsea Phipps (Albany Primary). We also welcome back Natalie Braithwaite who will be working one day a week.
This Friday we have our two Celebration Assemblies - the Years 3-6 is at 9.30 and the Year 0-2 has theirs at 1.45pm.
Our Graduation Assembly for our Year 6 students is happening next Wednesday 14 th December at 1pm.
Farewell and all the very best to all families who will not be with us next year. We wish you well as perhaps your child moves on to Intermediate or you move out of the area.
I will be sending home a short newsletter next week.

AROUND THE SCHOOL
Athletics Carnival
We were very fortunate to be able to hold our RBS Athletics Carnival on Thursday. The students rotated around 16 fun activities in their Community groups. From three legged races, to obstacle courses and gumboot throwing there was a lot of variety on offer. It was amazing to see everyone participating and giving all of the events a go. After lunch all the children had a turn at running in class relay teams and we finished the day with an egg and spoon race where the students raced against the teachers and parents. The learners were buzzing! A huge thank you to all of the parents that came down to support the day.

MOTUORA ARTS

As part of an art unit in Motuora, we decided to make our own replica of the book ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. Over a term, we read the book and each week during an art session and students re-created a scene from the book. Once it was finished, it was collated into a book (cardboard was donated by Bruce Chapman from Attwoods). The students each got to complete their own book and take it home – the parents were so proud of their child and what they produced. Here are some photos of some of the scenes that students created and a group photo of some of the students showing the finished product.
Support our families this Christmas
StepsForward have been providing free, wrap around supports to families on the coast for over 25 years. We would like invite Red Beach School to partner with us to spread some Christmas joy to local families who are doing it tough this year. Donations of new toys, Christmas treats or grocery vouchers can be dropped at the school reception.
Check out this great pic, taken by Mr Crump during term - perhaps there's a pot of gold on the field ?
