Year 5 and 6 CampThe Year 5 and 6s had an awesome time attending camp at Peter Snell Youth Village. The weather didn’t always play ball but we didn’t let it stop us from doing heaps of fun activities. One of the days was a beach day where Aotearoa Surf taught the students stand up paddleboarding and kayaking. The waterslide at camp was another highlight. All the Year 5 and 6 teachers would like to say a huge thank you to the parents who came along as helpers. We couldn’t run camps without your support. |
TRAVELWISE CELEBRATION
We have a new group of Travelwise Student Leaders appointed from year 4 and 5 as they will be our Team for leading all of our sustainable travel initiatives next year as year 5s and 6s.
Their first campaign was a very successful WOW week, Walk or Wheels, that kicked off with some spooky wheels on Halloween.
At the end of the week one child from every class was a lucky prize winner for walking, park n’ walk, cycling or scootering to or from school.
The success of this first campaign and the initiatives already planned for next year ensured that when representatives from this dedicated group of students attended the Travelwise Award Celebration they were able to pick up a silver award for the school. The award ceremony was held at the Cloud in Auckland and attended by Mrs O’Reilly with 5 year 4 students and 1 year 5 student as the rest of our year 5 students were away at camp.
This excited group of students actually suffered a similar fate weather wise as our campers, getting soaked on the scavenger hunt around the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter. They also missed out on taking the Ferry from Gulf Harbour and home again because of the rain and ended up in a taxi - not quite as exciting but certainly a ‘travelwise’ experience being able to use the bus lane into town.
